Radical Constructivism

Frustrated by many arguments with a colleague trained as a physicist, I called Heinz von Foerster for advice. "Heinz, Jeffrey denies constructivism. He says, if I walk across the room and trip over a chair, and then he walks across the room and trips at the same place, that means the chair is really there. What do I say to him?"

"Paul!", Heinz's voice came back to me without hesitation. "You walk across the room and you both feel pain! From that point... everything...
is inference!"
