Technology Strategy

A number of client engagements have been concerned with technology strategy in two senses:
  1. The forward direction taken in the design of an evolving technology platform for corporate use; that is, the strategy by which technology is deployed
  2. The deployment of technology as part of high-level corporate strategy; that is, the strategic application of technology in direct service of the corporate mission
Increasingly in modern business, the meaning of the first is being overshadowed by the importance of the second.

Current consultancies (represented here with an overview and summary)
are especially concerned in this way. Some earlier engagements (for Johnson Controls, AT&T and NYNEX) were, perhaps less obviously, focused on how a strategy in technology can lead to much more effective solutions, or even new businesses.
